Lake Of The Clouds Escarpment

Bob Sprague and I walked in the direction of Miscwawbic Peak in the Porcupine Mountains. This was the first trip this season to the Escarpment

The temperatures were mild and no black flies were present. Lake Of The Clouds is in the background in this picture. The black spots in the sky in several of these photos are turkey vultures.

Sprague is looking for the presence of eagles in an established nest just below Lafayette Peak. One was perched in the big white pine.
The distant hill here is Lafayette Peak. Lake Superior lies beyond it.
Some of the early wildflowers include Hepaticas. Delicate, with color varying between lavender and white.

We saw only a few Trailing Arbutus on this trip.

Below are two views of the very steep cliffs we visited.

Ram's Head Lady's Slipper

Sprague took me again to the Escarpment, this time to see a few Ram's-Head Orchids (Cypripedium arietinum). Bob had last seen
these fourteen years ago on the Escarpment Trail. Perseverence pays to enjoy these tiny treasures!
