The Rock Shore at Mirror Lake

There is an exposure of rhyolite on the east shore of Mirror Lake, populated by Oaks and White Pines. It is a great place to relax and enjoy the splendor of Mirror Lake.

Rafferty and I canoe to the Rock Shore

The rhyolite outcrop and needles dropped from the pines. This view looks back toward the cabin..

The right side of this picture shows the inlet of the Little Carp River. Upstream is a wide area of active beaver ponds and dormant meadows.

I'm fascinated by the trees that thrive in the harsh environment of our rock outcrops. The pine growing out of the rock may well be much older than it looks.
